Entry Formalities: India tourist coming to Arunachal Pradesh has to obtain an inner line permit. Foreign tourist has obtain a Restricted area Permit. The permit can be obtain for a period of 10 Days for group consisting of four or more person.Foreign tourist have to pay USD 50 per Restricted area permit.

HOW TO REACH TAWANG:

By Air: The nearest Domestic Airport is Salonibari Airport, Tezpur, roughly six hour drive from Tawang. It is well connected to Kolkata and Guwahati through Air India flight. The nearest International Airport from Tawang is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, roughly 480 Kms from Tawang. It is connected with the major cities like Delhi, Imphal, Kolkata, Agartala, Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Lilabari, Silchar, Dimapur, Jorhat and Mumbai.

By Rail: Nearest railway station is Tezpur(160km)

By Road: Tawang is about 16 hour drive from Guwahati. From Tezpur (12 hrs)you go to Bhalukpong (border of Assam and Arunachal) where Indian and Non Indian tourists have to show in permit (easily obtainable at either Guwahati or Tezpur) and proceed to a beautiful and rough drive up the mountains. It can take 12-14 hrs if you go at a stretch to Tawang. It is advisable to break your journey at either Bomdila or better still – charming little valley town of Dirang. Sela pass is notoriously difficult and heavy snowfall (during season) could force you to stay on either side. .

Sila Pass : It is the heighest pass in region 1400 ft . above sea level on the way to Tawang

Bomdila

Bomdila is the head quarter of West Kameng district located at the height of 8500 ft. above sea level. It has a lot of attraction for the tourists with its cool climate, Apple orchards artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monetary of of Bomdila is the repository of culture.

Dirang

Dirang : This township ,a unique hill station is located in Arunachal Pradesh with in the district of Kameng at an altitude of 5000 ft .

P.T.Tso Lake

P.T.Tso Lake- This lake is situated above Tawang and is frozen for about 4-5 months of a year. One can hire a local vehicle and go to this lake. The lake itself is splendid as well as the views from the lake are also unbelievable

Tawang Monastery.

Tawang Monastery. A Tibetan Buddhist Monastery of the Gelugpa sect – constructed in 1681. It was the birth place of the celebrated 6th Dalai Lama, and is home to more than 500 lamas.

Jaswant Garh

Indian Army War Memorial, commemorating the bravery of hundreds of soldiers who successively fought in the 1962 war against the Chinese. Jaswant Singh Rawat, who along with two other soldiers bravely fought of the Chinese Army invading Tawang, during the battle of Nuranang. For his outstanding act of gallantry Rfn. Jaswant Singh Rawat was posthumously awarded with the Mahavir Chakra. His two colleagues L Nk. Trilok Singh Negi, along with Rfn Gopal Singh Gusain, were awarded with the Vir Chakra..

Bum La-

Bum La- The Bum La Pass is located about 37 km away from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border above 16,500 ft above sea level. This is an old traders road went from Tawang via Milakatong La Pass (La in Tibetan is pass) to Bum La Pass and finally to Tsona Dzong in Tibet province of China. This area is heavily guarded by Indian Army and one need to obtain Protected Area Permit (PAP) to visit this place. PAP can easily be obtained with the help of travel agents in Tawang.

Jang falls

Jang falls- A beautiful waterfall just about a km away from the Jang town. It is quite spectacular

Sangetsar Lake

Sangetsar Lake- This is another lake situated above Tawang and it was formed as a result of earthquake in 1971. One can see the remaining branches of pine forest on the lake. This lake is also known as Madhuri lake, because Madhuri Dixit (a Bollywood actress) danced in this lake during the shooting of the movie Koila.

Tawang War Memorial

The Tawang War Memorial was built in memory of soldiers of the Indian Army who gave up their life in the 1962 Indo-Sino War. This is a fitting memorial for the greatest sacrifice anyone can offer.
