Darjeeling -The Queen of Hills

Situated at an altitude of 2590 meter (8482 ft.). It is 15 km from Darjeeling town. An early morning trip to the hill promises an unique experience. A view of the sunrise amidst the himalayan range has earned it an international fame. From here you can get a glimpse of Mount Everest, the highest mountain and Kanchenjungha Range.

Built in Tibetan style it is called the Yiga Cholling Monastery which is situated about 8 kms.from the town at Ghoom and enshrines an image of “the Coming Buddha” or the Maitriya Buddha. It was constructed in 1875.

Batasia Loop and The War Memorial: About 5 km from Darjeeling, this raiway loop is a marvellous feat of engineering and with its magnicent view of Darjeeling town and the Kanchenjunga mountain is an awesome experience, whether aboard the Toy Train or just watch Toy Train pass through this loop. The war memorial is constructed in the memory of the brave sons of Darjeeling who died for the country during Independence in 1947.

Situated on Jawahar Parbat about 2 kms. From Chowrasta, this unique institution trains mountaineers. It has a museum containing an interesting collection of mountaineering equipment, adjacent to the Himalayan Mountaineering Instituute.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park: It is a hight altiude wildlife Park and new home for Siberian Tiger,Himalayan Biack Bear, Deer, Red Panda, Snow leopard and Birds.Tenzing Rock and Gombu Rock: Situated at Lebong Cart Road Himalayan Mountaineering Institute conducts preliminary course on rock climbing on these rocks.

Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre: Tibetan refugee self help centre was established on 1 October 1959 to rehabilitate displaced Tibetens who had followed his Holiness the Dalai lama to India in early 1959. This centre produces excellent carpets woolens goods, woodwork, leatherwork etc. The Tibetan craftsmen can be seen at work at the centre. It is closed on Sundays.

Happy Valley Tea Estate: Of about seventy tea gardens in this hilly region, this is one of the nearest about 3 km from the town. Some of the Tea Gardens also sell their packet teas and the most accessible one is the happy valley tea Estate.

Japanese Peace Pagoda: the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist inaugurated the Japanese Peace Pagoda in 1992. It is a recent landmark constructed by Japanese Monks and commands an excellent view of the Himalayan Range.

Ava Art Gallery: About 2 km Approximately 10 minutes by taxi from the motor stand, it is just below the main road on the way to Ghoom. This gallery houses fine art and embroidery work of Mrs.Ava Devi.

Rock Garden: It is situated about 10 Kilometers from Darjeeling. While proceeding from the town along Hill Cart Road ,one has to turn right, well before reaching Ghum. The road descends rapidly into the valley with sharp bends all the way there are breathaking views at many points. Tea gardens dot the hill slopes. A multi level picnic ground terraced around a natural waterfall, its attraction is in it being a sort a sort of road-side facility but with a little too much concrete.

Ganga Maya Park : Another delightful tourist attractions; situated about 2 kilometers from Rock Garden. It offers the charm of a beautiful lake with boating facilities. The ride on the boat is a delightful vocation. An ideal Place for Photography, developed in 1997 by DGHC

The Mall and Chowrasta- The Mall road originates and culminates at the chowrasta which is the hub of Dareeling town, a suare on the ridge of Darjeeling town and a good place to sit and relax. It is ideal for a leisurely walk around the Mall is must, just any time of the day with pleasant view of mountains, valleys with Rhodondendron trees and old houses.

Mirik is a nest in the hills is located at an altitude of 1767 meters with its own sqecial charms-49 km from Darjeeling and 52 km from Siliguri. 1.25 km long lake is fed by perennial streams. A floating fountain in the middle of the lake is a joy forever and very often you may find the glory of Kanchenjungha reflected in the lake waters. A rich forest of thousands of Cryptomaria-Japanica trees clothe the slopes on the west. A 3.5 km zig -zag footwalk takes you along the lake a sleek footbridge connects the garden on east with the woods on west. Alone or in company, you are sure to enjoy a boat- ride in the lake.
